Successful Website Tips
We have written a very useful guide to help you understand the importance of good SEO when building your website or running your online business. Grab yourself a cup of coffee and a cake, sit back and relax and read the important guide below to significantly help your online business become a success!!
1. Website content is King
This needs to be repeated again – Website content is King! This is the single most important factor you must remember when it comes to building or creating a website.
If you are searching for a product or service at a search engine and you type in those keywords before performing a search then in almost all cases the site listings that are displayed are linking to pages or sites that contain those keywords you just typed in.
Be sure to have good, well-written, and unique content that will focus on your primary keyword or keyword phrase.
THIS WILL MAKE OR BREAK YOUR ONLINE BUSINESS!!
2. Website navigation
Your page navigation is very important when it comes to website design. If for example you use a fancy java script drop down menu to display your site links, or use image maps or image links, then you MUST make sure you have standard html text links somewhere on your web page for search engine spiders to follow.
Search engine spiders are the robots that the search engines use to “crawl your webpage” hence the commonly used term “crawl”.
But just because you have those keywords written on your site pages will not guarantee you come up first for those keywords. There are hundreds of factors that determine your website position as displayed in this guide and no website is guaranteed top listings (not even if you pay for pay per click listings) because while you are trying to achieve this, thousands of others are too!!
3. Keep your site design modern and unique
Website designs are constantly changing. In the same way a car from 3 years ago is outdated when the latest model arrives on show at the motor show, blows people away and makes them crave or want to own one, then so does any new website that looks and works better than your old, outdated design.
You are losing sales, you are losing customers and you are losing money the longer your old website design stays online. You should be changing your website design at the very least every 2 years but once a year would always keep you on top.
We can speak on experience as we usually change our website design once per year and with these changes we ALWAYS get an influx of customers.
But at the same time remember that “if something’s good, don’t change it”. But if you don’t like something and it’s not working as well as it once did before then change it.
4. Build an XML site map
Right click this example XML site map and select to “Save link as”. Save the page to your hardrive. Open the page in notepad and change the text “yourwebsite.com” to your actual website address. Then edit the text “your-page-name.html” to the name of your website page. Then delete all the other lines that are not needed.
Do not delete the code snippets for your actual links. Only delete the lines above that you don’t need after you have entered all your pages to the list. If you need to add more pages, then just copy and paste the same code as above to a new line and edit again.
Once this is complete, send it to your website designer and ask them to link to this page from your homepage and MOST IMPORTANTLY you simply MUST submit this sitemap to Google via the webmaster tools.
5. Quality backlinks
You need to build a network of quality backlinks. This means getting other sites to link to you. But this can make or break you. For example, if there is no good, logical reason for a site to link to your website then you don’t want that site to link to yours.
So if you are looking to build link partners then think very carefully about the sites that are linking to you. If for example you have a hotel in Pattaya, then a good site to link to your site would be an information website designed for tourists.
So look for link partners whose websites would benefit by having a link to your site from theirs.
6. Understanding PageRank
Don’t be obsessed with PageRank for your business website. It is just one very small and quite often misunderstood part of the ranking algorithm. A site with lower PR can actually outrank one with a higher PR.
That’s very important to understand!!
So concentrate on the other points and useful website tips as discussed on this page to better prepare your site for SEO and don’t fret about page ranking.
7. Unique keyword titles
Be sure you have a unique, keyword focused title tag on every page of your site. And, if you really MUST have the name of your company in your page title then put it at the very end. Unless your business is a household name, then your actual business name will probably get few searches.
So bear in mind people are searching for example “website design in Pattaya” or “the best website design company in Pattaya” so these would be the types of titles you would use on your website pages.
Choose your page titles carefully
8. Keep your site fresh
Fresh website content can significantly help improve your rankings in the search engines.
By adding the latest updated and useful content to your web pages on a regular basis adds relevancy to your site in the eyes of the search engines.
Think of your website like a piece of fresh fruit such as an apple. At it’s peak ripeness it looks appetising, fresh and appealing. As it ages it starts to rot, looks stale and nobody wants to touch it.
The same principle applies to your website!! Keep your site fresh and appealing ALWAYS!!
9. Focus on search phrases and short sentences
It’s very easy for people to single out “keywords” as being very important when it comes to SEO, but one must also remember that “search phrases” are equally as important.
So if for example you have a restaurant in Pattaya that specialises in Italian food then an ideal header for that page would not be “Welcome to Our Restaurant” but rather “Italian Restaurant in Jomtien, Pattaya”. This will significantly help your website by specifically saying who and what you are as well as where you are based.
10. Design a website from the start with SEO in mind and listen to your designer
If you think fancy images and flashing text are the way to attract customers to your site then think again. It might work when they arrive at your site but if you focus your design on when your website visitors are actually on your site as opposed to bringing them there in the first place then you have already failed.
As explained at the very beginning of this list that “Content is King” and this can’t be stressed enough. So get the right balance with suitable text and suitable images as this will ensure customers can find you and when they do they will be impressed!
11. Using keywords in your domain name
Having a domain name with keywords that already half explain who and what you are is the first step. For example, if you are in the property market and based in Pattaya then something like www.pattayaproperty.com would be ideal.
But in a market so competitive it is virtually impossible in this day and age to secure the domain of your choice and especially a .com. Also bear in mind that the domain name is not as important nowadays because it could still be called for example www.ZebraZoo.com and still make its way to the very top of the search results for property listings if the SEO is done right.
So don’t fret and don’t panic if you can’t secure the domain of your choice because you can still be a HUGE SUCCESS with any domain whatsoever. However, opt for a .com, .net or .org wherever possible.
12. URL extension is irrelevant
Your sites pages URL file extension doesn’t matter at all. You can use .html, .asp, .php, .htm, etc and it won’t affect your ranking where SEO is concerned.
Most websites are built using html and php. It just depends on the site in question and how it looks and functions.
But make sure when naming pages for your site that they are named in relation to the content of that page. For example, if your web page is advertising a red BMW for sale and you are based in Bangkok and wish to target Bangkok residents then the ideal page name would be something like “red-bmw-for-sale-in-bangkok.html”.
13. Get a web blog built within your website
If your website content doesn’t need to change very often then your site almost definitely needs a web blog. Search engine spiders don’t just like fresh text, they love it! Blog at the very least three time a week with articles in relation to your business. You will get thousands more hits and potential custom this way.
Your website designer will know how to build you a web blog so contact them for advice.
Get a web blog and start blogging if you really want more site hits!!
14. Keyword overload is not good
Search engines will know if you are trying to cheat them with excessive multiple use of your keywords written on your pages.
Do not think that using the same word over and over again will get you a higher rank. Just write your website content naturally and explain in great detail who and what you are or what you are selling.
No one likes spamming and that especially means the search engines!
15. Be user-friendly and work on all devices
Build a site that is easy to use and works on all devices. People are accessing your site on different browsers, different mobiles and different tablets all with different screen sizes and resolutions. You can’t make your site look the same on all these devices but you can make your site function on all of them.
NEVER BUILD A SITE TO SUIT ONE SCREEN SIZE OR ONE DEVICE!!!!!
